Uttapam (onion -tomato)
Uttapam is a popular South Indian dish! Here's a simple recipe:
*Ingredients:*
- 1 cup dosa batter (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers (optional)
- 1-2 green chilies, chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- Salt, to taste
- Oil or ghee, for cooking
*Instructions:*
1. *Prepare Batter:* Mix dosa batter with water to achieve a thick, pourable consistency.
2. *Add Toppings:* Heat a non-stick pan or tava. Pour a ladle of batter and spread it slightly thicker than dosa.
3. *Top with Vegetables:* Immediately sprinkle chopped onions, tomatoes, bell peppers(optional), green chilies, and cilantro over the batter.
4. *Cook:* Drizzle oil or ghee around the edges. Cook on medium heat until the bottom is golden brown and the top is cooked.
5. *Flip (Optional):* If desired, flip and cook the other side lightly.
6. *Serve:* Serve hot with coconut chutney, sambar, or your favorite accompaniments.
*Tips:*
Adjust the vegetables according to your preference.
- Ensure the batter is not too thin, as Uttapam should be thicker than dosa.
- Experiment with spices or herbs in the batter for extra flavor. In this recipe I've sprinkled some chilli powder and pepper powder.
-Some also pour the vegetables directly into the batter then add that on the non stick pan for cooking.
Enjoy your delicious Uttapam!
